How your estimate is calculated

The calculator uses the same transparent rate model documented on our methodology page. Every estimate is two parts added together. First, handling, the crew hours to load and unload: a studio typically takes two movers about three hours, while a four-bedroom home takes a four-mover crew around nine hours, at a 2026 blended national rate of $62 per mover per hour. This part is the same at any distance.

Second, transport, a per-mile cost that grows with distance but whose per-mile rate steps down over longer hauls (highest on the first 100 miles, lowest past 1,500), scaled up for larger homes. Because both parts are continuous, there's no sudden jump between a local and a long-distance move, a 49-mile and a 51-mile move cost effectively the same.

Dates matter: May through September peak season adds about 15%, and the last five days of any month add roughly 8%. If you can move mid-month in the off-season, the same job costs meaningfully less.

FAQ

It adds two things: the crew hours to load and unload your home size (a fixed handling cost), and a per-mile transport cost that scales with your distance and steps down over longer hauls. Then it applies seasonal demand multipliers for your date and adds any extras like packing or storage. Every assumption is displayed under your estimate.

Yes. The estimate renders on the page immediately, before any contact form. You never need to provide an email or phone number to see your number.

Because real quotes vary with your exact inventory, building access, and the carrier's schedule. We show roughly -18% to +22% around a computed midpoint, an honest band, not false precision.
